About Tikondwere
Tikondwere is a nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty by empowering vulnerable and underprivileged youth in Malawi. We provide comprehensive education and community support, connecting students with compassionate international donors who believe in their potential to transform their futures.
Since our inception, we've worked directly with over 100+ students across 40+ communities in Malawi, raising more than MWK 13.6M+ to fund education, nutrition, healthcare, mentorship, and skills training programs.
Our Story
Tikondwere was founded on a simple yet powerful belief: every child, regardless of their economic circumstances, deserves access to quality education. Our journey began when our founders witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of poverty on talented students in Malawi who were unable to attend school due to lack of resources. These students had the drive, the intelligence, and the ambition - they just lacked opportunity.
In the remote communities of Malawi, over 90% of the student population faces critical barriers to education. Many students come from families living on less than MWK 3,500 per day. School fees, uniforms, meals, and materials are luxuries they cannot afford. As a result, bright, capable young people drop out of school early, perpetuating cycles of poverty that span generations.
Tikondwere emerged from this reality. We recognized that education alone is not enough. Students cannot focus on learning if they are hungry. They cannot maintain attendance if they are sick. They cannot succeed without mentorship and guidance from positive role models. This comprehensive understanding led us to develop a holistic approach that addresses multiple barriers to student success simultaneously.
What began as a small local initiative has grown into a structured nonprofit organization with rigorous systems, accountability measures, and proven results. We now operate across 40+ communities in Malawi, serving students from primary through secondary school and beyond, providing them not just with education, but with the comprehensive support system they need to thrive.
Our Mission
To empower vulnerable and underprivileged youth in Malawi by providing comprehensive education, nutrition, healthcare, mentorship, and skills development programs that enable them to break the cycle of poverty and achieve their full potential.

The Problem We're Solving
Extreme Poverty: Many families in rural Malawi live on less than MWK 3,500 per day, making school fees, uniforms, and educational materials completely unaffordable.
Educational Barriers: Limited school capacity, insufficient resources, and high dropout rates mean that talented students are unable to access quality education that could change their lives.
Malnutrition: Hunger is a significant barrier to learning. Students cannot concentrate in class when their stomachs are empty, leading to poor academic performance and health problems.
Limited Mentorship: Young people in these communities often lack positive role models and mentors who can guide them through challenges and inspire them to pursue their dreams.
Lack of Opportunity: Even students who complete their education often lack the skills and connections needed to find employment, trapping them in cycles of poverty.
Our Comprehensive Approach
Education Access
We remove financial barriers by covering school fees, exam registration, uniforms, and educational materials. This ensures students can attend school consistently and have access to quality learning resources.
Nutritional Support
We provide daily nutritious meals to students, understanding that proper nutrition is essential for cognitive development, academic focus, and physical health. Students cannot learn on empty stomachs.
Healthcare Services
We connect students with healthcare services including regular health screenings, immunizations, medical referrals, and emergency medical support. Healthy students are better learners.
Mentorship & Guidance
We provide one-on-one mentoring relationships where students receive academic support, life coaching, emotional guidance, and inspiration from mentors who believe in their potential.
Skills Development
We offer vocational training, technical skills education, and entrepreneurship development to prepare students for employment or self-employment opportunities after graduation.
Community Engagement
We work closely with local schools, community leaders, and families to ensure our programs are culturally appropriate, sustainable, and create positive ripple effects throughout entire communities.
